Norwegian Air Shuttle (NAS) has launched new trials in live inflight tv on additional routes. The Oslo-based low cost carrier has launched live–real-time tv via satellite from the U.S. to the Caribbean. For the the coming months till May, the content will be broadcast live from Boston, New York JFK, and Baltimore-Washington International Airport to both Martinique and Guadeloupe.
This follows the announcement of UK/European live tv onboard trials last month..
The two North American channels are Bloomberg Television and the NFL Network alongside free wi-fi connectivity to PEDS for internet and email access.
The satcoms services are enabled by Global Eagle Entertainment’s AIRCONNECT Inflight Connectivity (IFC) platform using ku band.
NAS chief commercial officer Thomas Ramdahl says, ‘This live television trial with Global Eagle is a great way to mark the first Norwegian short-haul flights from the U.S. to the Caribbean and a natural extension of our milestone live television trials announced across Europe last month.’
There are plans to optimize the live tv service with sponsorship and ancillary revenue generation.
